where is all the waterfowl

Postby LBeinhaur » Mon Nov 21, 2011 4:05 am

I have been deer hunting most of the past week and haven;t done to much scouting. Drove down to the refuge at Dead Creek and see a lot of snows but not much else. same for the Lake just south of the bridge.

Is it just me or are others seeing much in the way of waterfowl?

Have been hunting three days per week and seen very few ducks. Trying various spots some of which were traditionally very hot. Geese are around. The geese are getting shy and flying the last 15 vmiutes before sundown. I manage to get at least one flock to decoy every time.

Am starting to see a few mallards very late about 30 minutes after sundown. During the day, it is dead.

On the news they said that drought in most of the midwest have driven waterfowl migration to New Mexico. Apparently, they are up to their $%^&*'s in birds. Road trip?
What? There's open water? Its not cold enough.

Pretty terrible out there. I hunted the slang friday morning and we saw 2 or 3 small groups of mallards. Very few ducks around, can't get much worse.
