Managed to kill one

Postby drakehntr » Tue Nov 22, 2011 9:07 pm

Seemed to be tougher than usual this year to find Blacktail bucks in Western WA. But managed to find this boy in the high elevations. 190 yd shot with my Marlin XL7 30-06 and Hornady Super Performance 150 gr. I have been a bird hunter all my life, but just picked up big game 4 years ago. After coming up blank the first 2 years, I shot a spike last year and now a 3x3 this year.

Thats what I've heard. Ive managed to get out a couple times early in the season to kill a couple, but I really start hunting birds Thanksgiving through the end of season. Scouting this week, then hitting the blind Friday and Sat with my dad on some saltwater. Hopefully my bird counts start rising.

Nice deer!

I like blasting ducks, but it sure is fun putting hands on something larger than a football.

Public land buck?

Yep, a public land buck. I was 3 total deer in early rifle season here. Then tried some higher elevation in the 4 day late season and saw about 15 deer in one day including this buck. Just started snowing the night before and that was the key. Deer were moving and they stuck out like sore thumbs.
