Class II Waterfowl area- anybody on here hunt?

Postby bigsprig » Mon Nov 28, 2011 12:53 pm

Went to look at Enoree River WMA while in upstate for business week before season. Long walk, beautiful impoundment, lots of corn, watched several hundred ring necks feeding in open water and corn. Came back and went online to see what crowds might be like if made the drive- YIKES! Never mind!

Opening week last season- 65 hunters fired 1283 shots to harvest 123 birds. 47 were lost? Really people- 47?

Total for last year in this area alone- 253 hunters- 2463 shots fired- 247 ducks harvested- 97 lost?

10 shots per duck harvested- how do you spell skybusting?

Attached is link: http://www.dnr.sc.gov/wildlife/waterfow ... todate.pdf

Final numbers from DNR managed area hunts last year if interested-

One other thing of interest. It seems there were 60 mystery ducks supposedly harvested in the Hatchery WMA that can not be identified- somebody was supposedly shooting a lot of times to harvest these "unknown" ducks.

Things that make you go HMMMM?

Yep the only ones that I will ever hunt is those which are open on wednesdays. The ones on saturdays are more like a dove field full of rubberheads then guys going hunting.
You know your hunting in South Carolina when a bunch of ducks fly in and you shot both of them!!

sounds like you could go in there on an off day with a good dog and limit out. shame that many birds dont get recovered.
Big sprig,
