I wouldn't go any way other than freelance. That is part of the adventure, and the challenge. We leave Minneapolis, drive as far as we can, spend the night (used to drive straight through) and drive on to our destination. We set up camp (tents etc.) and start hunting. We stay in a Provincial Park (showers and bathrooms etc.) and they (city) charges us $50.00 per site for the week.
Before we went for the first time, we looked at maps (OK, it was a long time ago) and contacted DU and got some leads. We also got the phone number for the Conservation Officer, and called him and he gave us some leads. After that, we got there and looked around and shot ducks. Bought the RM maps, and got landowner names. Stopped at local diners and asked for places to hunt. In making many trips over the years, we have only been turned down one time, and that turned out to be a hoax, perpetrated by "an outfitter" that didn't own the land. The owner gave us permission to be there. No problem....it is a big place. There are other ducks!
It really not that expensive or difficult.
Have a great hunt!
