Saw about a dozen woodies where I was. One left with me. Also saw 2 green wings and 3 mallards. I was in a hard to get to spot and still saw 8 other hunters.

Saw and heard a ton of geese, like from first light to noon when I quit. Most did not appear to be residents. Anyone else agree?

It was chilly, but felt good. So did that first pull of the trigger.

Figure seeing birds is a prerequisite to a successful outing. That had a lot to do with last years success rate.
I, on the other hand, didn't see a single bird at work all night. :fingerhead:

Glad to hear you got to get out there.

Let the season begin.

We shot 6 bwt and 3 woodies and missed way more. Heard what sounded like about 1000 geese flying over us at 530 while we were waiting for lst. I got up at 330am and got to my spot I scouted hard for the last couple weeks at 430. We started tossing dekes out when another boat rolled up about 5 minutes later and slowed down to try to set up 40 yds from where we were. They politely moved on when we gave them the head lamp and whistle. Thanks to them for being cool. Had a fun morning and got to speed over to Shepardstown for the freedom run 5k. I got 4th in my age group, not too shabby

Was on a farm pond I have permission to hunt.
Only saw three ducks all morning, and they were far away...
I did however have a flock of 20 geese come straight into the pond. Week of Thanksgiving can't get here soon enough.
Also, I would say the geese I saw today were new to the area.

Been checking the ducks unlimited map and sounds like lots of woodies around, more than usual i would say. Hope it keeps up. And good goose numbers seems to be good as well.

Do you guys think that this is an indicator of a hard winter?

And when was the last opener that was freezing?

We saw more woodies then ever this year. Zero big ducks to be seen. Seemed to have a small push of geese come through my area Fri-Sat, but numbers seem low to me this year compared to years past.

Also noticed the acorns are dropping like I've never seen before (mass quantity). I've talked to a few people in different parts of the state and they are all saying te same thing. I don't know what that means, but I'm gonna mark it in the books.
