Well i got like three dozen mallyards but from where i've found to hunt I will probably only be carring about six maybe depending on what flying into the pond i'll pic up a couple of those. Other than that anything over 2 doz is a waste of time just for me.

I have about 12 dozen but only take out one to two dozen at a time. It depends on how the ducks are acting

I generally use six hen mallards, six hen teal, and a couple widgeon in the early season, then start adding drakes in October.

Things have been REAL busy lately. I've been working 10's and then trying to fix a couple rooms here at the house before the twins get here. Mostly I try to figure out where my "helper" has put my hand tools when I'm not looking. I'll probably be real scarce here in the next few weeks, as the girls are due to arrive some time in the next three weeks. As it looms closer the thought of a hyper active two year old and two infants is starting to get me a little concerned about my sanity (or soon to be lack of).

Hey I grew up down south hunting the woods and the rice fields of White river Ark.area. I have also owned several dozen for those times when you want to show off your Deks. But I have found that setting out in the back corner with a half dozen or so works well. All you need is something to get their atten. when flying by....

Here we go ...

Postby Northern Stalker » Fri Aug 25, 2006 11:59 pm

I have chimmed in on this before.
We normally use about 90 decoys at our blind, could we shoot alot of ducks with less decoys...you bet but it isn't as fun as setting a mass of them up.
I do think it helps with the Pintails having more decoys. Our blind is set up right along the end of a grassy peninsula that splits a marsh which borders a river that the ducks migrate along....so location is good to begin with.
When we seaduck hunt we generally use spreads to target certain species on certain days...we set up alot differntly for Harlequin than we do scoter or GoldenEye.
For me a bird taxidermist, it doesn't matter if we shoot limits as long as we shot some nicley plummed specimens.
