He's good. Only needs to be fed once at night. I don't think he could be any better. How's the progress coming?

I'm tired, my back hurts, and I'm sick of carpentry. I'd hoped for a September 1 opening, but it ain't gonna happen. I still like finishing bathrooms, walls, 2nd level flooring, light switches & outlets, trim, doors, etc, etc, etc. seems like the finish line's getting farther away.

My first kid was the same way. Never got her out of bed between 6-weeks & six months. She slept 12 hours a day. You should be warned, however, that you won't get two of em with your wife's personality. The next one will be all you and delivered straight from purgatory to torment your soul.

On a side note, I just got a cool gift. My great-grandfather was a market hunter that stomped on the same ground where I hunt today. My grandfather's brother called me today and said he had something he wanted to give me, and then brought me my great-grandfather's Winchester Model 1911 SL 12-gauge, complete with the forearm gramps fabricated for it when he split the original. Pretty cool stuff -- I'm holding a 110 year old gun that's responsible for the death of more birds than the avian flu. Guess the apple really doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Thats pretty cool. Not only do you hunt the same ground but now you have the same gun. Does it still shoot? Safe to shoot steel? It would be cool to kill at least one duck with that gun.

One wouldn't want to run a modern shell through that thing. The 1911 SL was the single greatest failure in Winchester's history. It became to be known as the "widowmaker," because it was an auto loader that was cocked via a very stiff spring, which was compressed by forcing the barrel downward. There is no charge handle on the bolt assembly. Folks would rest the butt on the ground to force the action open, and then blow their faces off.

Those guns were a loose knock-off of browning's A-5, which Winchester's lawyers helped browning acquire a patent for, and which Winchester rejected before browning took the plans to FN. the aestivation and ergonomics of the 1911 are very similar to those of the A-5, but the guns were reputed to be notoriously in-reliable and prone to unintentional firings.

I don't know whether I should be insulted that you think my child would be sent to torture me, or take it as a compliment that you think that my wife's child would be so sweet.

That's a very neat piece of history you have there cannon. As someone who appreciates the history of hunting in Arkansas I think that's quite cool.

See what I did there? I called you a hellion but complimented your wife . . . I've intentionally created a situation where you can be pissed, but only slightly so. It's the only thing I learned in law school.

I REALLY wanted to have this barn finished before the dove opener, but it just wasn't in the cards. We'll shoot for November.

Bravo my friend. That looks great. Try not to let trim work wear you down. It can be slow, but it really makes up for errors in the beginning. I can't wait to see it in person.

It's worse luck to count 13 steps.

Thanks gents. I have a new respect for carpenters. This project was about 1000% more labor intensive than I expected. Thank God for pervasive rains & a late harvest. If it weren't for that, t wouldn't have it done by March.
