Grass Lake

Postby RidgewayVol » Sat Nov 10, 2012 11:53 am

New to the area, but as I was driving by Grass Lake, I noted several boats or blinds out in the water. Are these private or state drawn blinds? Tried to get into Chain of Lakes State Park to get a better look, but closed to all but hunters today. Mainly curious if these are freelance opportunities or the few places hunting is permitted on the lakes. Thanks

Grasslake blinds are the only public blinds on the chain. They are raffled earlier in the year to each owner. Owners have to be there half hr before shooting time. If not than those blinds are first come first serve. All other blinds on the chain are private

they can be most entertaining. a lot of sky busters. if at all possible go mid week or try to get permission to hunt a private blind. most of the blinds up near blarney island can be a zoo. try to stay away from them if you can. it gets better late season fewer people out.

Two weeks ago someone got their blind burnt. It was no accident. Anyone hear about that?

If you're planning on getting out on the Chain-o-Lakes make sure you stop by the Fox Waterway Agency office in Fox Lake to pick up your waterway boat permit, you'll need your hunting license to get the Waterfolwers Permit. The waterway agency will be able to give you an idea of the hunting opportunities on the Chain.

Grass Lake and the chain are a great resource. Weekdays best vs Weekends. Good info on line with the DNR IL A lot of hunting history in the area . Watch the DU migration map for activity. Northeastern IL DU chapter is active. Fox Lake and Lake Forest chapters are too. Watch for birds around opening day of pheasant season and anytime a large weather front pushes through from the NW. Best of luck Good shooting. Delany
