What is the ideal depth for hunting divers on big lakes or reservoirs?

Let the ducks decide. It varies from one body of water to another. It also varies throughout the season on a given body of water, and according to what species you are after. Where I hunt, the really shallow water only seems to appeal to buffleheads, which we don't shoot because they are so small. We usually end up in water ranging from 8' to 20' deep.
