If it is street legal...

Postby Penguine » Mon Aug 21, 2006 7:37 pm

Here in South Dakota you are allowed to license an ATV with a engine of 250cc on up to operate on the roads. You have to have head and tail lights, blinkers, and a horn. With that said, as soon as I find out if that bad boy is able to be licensed I may be buying one. The one I looked at locally even had a two speakers and a jack for an MP3 player. To cool...

It costs $3000. Sure I could buy a car, but I have one. And this thing gets 45 miles per gallon, and has a 1½ gallon tank. LOL.. that is about 80 miles per tank. That would get me back and fourth to work, out to the local marsh for some duck and dove hunting, and save me $50 a week in gas. Woot. I would even drive it to work in the winter. The military gives us some pretty nifty cold weather gear. I have Gortex coat and pants, Wool Socks, Thinsulat Boots, polypropolene long johns, ultra thin long johns, some very nice cold weather gloves, a baclava, knit cap.. Oh yes, I would be toasty warm.. LOL.

Oh, and I am going through a divorce and need a toy to celebrate! HAH!

Yea you do have a point. I wouldnt want to take it on a highway though.

Im sure the guy at the gate will have to bend down when he checks for your id.

Check with your local DMV. You might be surprised to find out that most vehicle are street legal as long as they are equipped with lights, blinkers, horn, etc.. That or put one of those reflective triangles on the back and pretend it is farm equipment. :umm:

LOOKS COOL!

But I am not too sure how comfortable a grown man would be driving it.

I would like to see it have at least a 450 engine like most of the quads. I think the mule or a rino might be a better choice.

Checking with the license folks today when I am downtown. Will let ya know what they tell me.

Would be nice to get it with a bigger engine, but sadly 250cc is the biggest it comes in. With that said, it is reported to run at 50mph on pavement, not to shabby. I would never consider taking it on the highway, but back and fourth to work, out to the local duck marsh (10 miles away, all dirt roads) hell yes. A Mule or Rhino might be a better option, but a Mule or Rhino costs a lot more, plus my kids could have a good time with this thing. See, more bang for the buck.

Oh, and I am 6" 4" and fit in in. Sat in the one at the ATV dealer, loved it. Little small, but in reality my first car was a Volkswagon Beetle, my second car a Dodge Colt, my third car a Ford Escort. I have a history with small, economical vehicles. And like I said, being able to go 80 miles on a tank (1½ gallons) really looks good, especially since I only live 1 mile from work.

$3000 is a good price for a new toy, it looks like alot of fun.

Since you are single now, it might help you meet a new one.

Plus if you give a fellow hunter a ride, you can maintain your manhood riding side-by-side. You lose that when you spoon on an ATV like lovers. Don’t ask me how I know.

You can maintain your dignity if you face backwards and let your feet hang off the back. :salude:

*does the happy dance*

You gotta love the State of South Dakota. I can license this thing for operating on the road as long as it has the following:

Rearview Mirror -- CHECK!
Horn -- CHECK!
Exhaust and muffler -- CHECK!
Headlingths -- CHECK!
License Plate Light -- Will have to add
Parking Lights, Tail Lights, Stop Lights -- CHECK!
200cc Engine -- CHECK!

I have to add a license plate light is all, WOOT! Now to find the cash or get financed. *drools*

If I actually pick this thing up I will let ya all know how she performs. Could be possible as early as 15 Sep (day after divorce goes final) LOL.. By then I should know my alimony payment and if I can afford it.
