Only a ½ day off for me!
Had a hard time keeping my eyes open at the office by the time 3PM rolled around.

Enjoyed it Fri morning. Went out again Sat, to that "back pocket" and they were all over us at first light. But by 930, it was all over. Sat PM was a bust. We caught the best of it after that cold snap, it seems.

I guess me and Ryan hit it just right then on Thursday

Is that hen still alive?

She had a pretty rigorous case of rigor mortis going. Perhaps I'll start "posing" all my birds before they stiffen up.

Seth was done/limited out at 7:30.
No such luck for me. I'll say that he was cutting off all my birds.

The guy who shot it is getting a full body mount. That deer was so unique. We saw it when it was a yearling, and saw it once a year since then but never while hunting. It was a button buck, the a 4 point, then a large 6, shot as an 8. 4 year old deer weighed 110 pounds. Bucks we shoot that age usually push 250. The rack was the size of our typical 2 year old deer. Most our deer that age are 140in+. 2 days after this one was shot another one ran in front of our truck as we were picking people up from stands.

TM,

What is that top bird? Either I'm having a brain fart, or I need to pull out the books and study up.

Had a great season despite the lack of water pushing me out of my usual haunts. Killed a lot of birds (16 species) including several that were new to me, but these two were really the highlight of my season:

This is a common merganser...they don't make it this far south for the most part.

Makes sense. I've shot Commons in PA. I thought it was the reverse. Commons migrate south and reds stay north
