Wood Duck Poses?

Postby johnsonthehunter » Mon Dec 24, 2012 3:52 pm

So this weekend I was went to a place that I usually jump mallards out of and saw a wood duck drake and hen! (wood ducks are very rare in Western Wa and i have never seen one except for opening weekend). When i was sneaking up on them when i was very close but still couldn't see them i slipped into a hole in the swamp made quite a bit of noise and flushed them, not getting a shot. As a storm of four letter words was about to go off i heard whistling wings above my head and there they were 30 yards above me and i dumped the drake in one shot! So now i am wondering what a good pose for this awesome duck would be, any ideas?

We got plenty of woodie around here and don't think much bout killing one I've got two mounted one standing and one with his wings cupped coming in. Personally I like the standing mount much better because you can see all the colors on his side and the crest on his head. On the flying mount all you can see is his white belly. Nice bird hope you can find a mount you like.

Check out birdmanstudios.com. There's also a few other guys I'd recommend to do it for ya, but they aren't sponsors. If you're interested, PM me.

Awesome story congrats buddy. I got my first one mounted standing. Standing shows their colors a lot better especially the gold side feathers. I personally think flying is a waste because you can't see all the colors. That's my personal opinion. Hope that helps good luck!
