NEW MUD RIG!

Postby chipmunk » Tue Dec 25, 2012 3:21 pm

well, i decided to go the mud rig route !! this makes 5 boats in the fleet. 656 EDGE boat, 40 hp ORION SURFACE DRIVE kohler motor, Beavertial blind. i went to Oswego, NY to pick up this rig and ran it about 1/2 hr up there. i was not happy with a few things on the rig and decided to modifiy them. installed hydrulic trim (instead of electric accuator)put gas tank in the front, installed electric fuel pump, 2 batterys w/switch, winch on the front w/custom braket, spot light plug in the front. ran it yesterday for the first hunt.
I still have to install some presure control vales to slow down the speed of the hyraulic cylinder and a different thottle control. but am pretty happy with the performance. i hit 22.6 mph yesterday with a big prop. i am going to check the small prop in the am. the boat handles good with no sliding.

What RPMs are you turning with the big prop? Seems very slow.

Ok Chip, two things to say. I spoke with my dad yesterday and explained to him that I will down south this winter chasing snows, as my duck season just simply isnt gonna happen at this point. That being said, I was wondering if you could list your spread from last year. I remember the silos, but forgot what brand, and the wing spinners on a stick, I cant remember who makes them either. IIRC most of your spead was in one large duffle bag. I remeber the caller as being an IPOD with a small battery and an automotive amplifier. If you get a chance please let me know where to start. Im gonna retire my old spread and dont know whose making the light weight gear these days. Good luck with the rig, and if you have problems with the tach let me know, I been down that road where it doesnt read properly.

Chip, I would be interested in the details on the caller and the Snow Geese kites.

I had replied in the boat forum, but will do so here too. That is a great looking rig. Looks to be worth the drive to NY to grab. Should be perfect for our salt marshes.

That is on BAFM Chip! That thing makes my mud rig look like a dingy. I am going to have to see this bad boy in action.

John, Chip might take you in the mud boat Olympics.

For the record, chip has way more marsh cred than me. I would never run against him. Unless it was in the stumps, that would be a different story.
