Cold Weather Brings good Hunts

Postby EcatMagoo » Thu Dec 27, 2012 9:13 pm

Been a really difficult November/December but this cold front has brought some good hunts. Found a nice spot that was holding some birds. Was able to get access to the river. Was hoping for a mallard/goose hunt but when a green wing teal hunt broke out I wasnt complaining. I've never been a guy who only chases mallards. I love all ducks and enjoy viewing/shooting mixed bags. Todays hunt brought 7 gwt, 2 golden eye, 1 gadwal, and 2 mallards. Here's my father with our birds.

We are heading back out tomorrow. The mallards, gads, widgeon seemed a little nervous of our spread. I think they were seeing our layout blinds on the ice and it didnt look natural to them. We are going to try and cover the layout blinds with white sheets tomorrow. Hopefully we can bag more mallards.

you'll have to watch those sheets they will look blue. I think there is like a UV wash you can use and I heard it helps.

Today was good all around saw lots of mallards. Shot 2 mallards, 2 gadwalls and 1 lone teal. We had 8 big green heads just outside the deks my 13 year old boy got one. I did not shoot just love watching him get one. On the bad side I shot at by some ass, he set up across from me after shooting time then peppered our blind. Took everything I had not to go PTSD on him.
