Well any birds still around??

Postby Ic'm`canthit'm » Tue Jan 01, 2013 11:25 am

Well I've been out of town for a few weeks. Right when I flew out of Missoula I saw tons of birds coming in. Was wondering if anyone still seeing much or have things started to freeze up? I'll be back in the blind Friday-Sunday and will report what i find, hope all had a great holiday season.

Haven't seen a greenhead around for over a month now. Had to watch Flyway Highway and Chad Belding just to remind myself what they look like.

haha oh well. I'll still slip out Friday morning for a peek, if nothing is around I can go sit in a deer stand for a few more weeks.

I think I"m done with our feathered friends for the year. Ice fishing gear is out now and I hit the hardwater today for the first time. hardly got to ice fish at all last year since my stuff was in storage all winter so I gotta spend a little time on the ice this year to make up for it. Now that i'm on the westside, I'm missing being able to be on the water at Nelson in 30 minutes  Don't get me wrong, I am happy to be back, but the one thing I really miss about Malta is ice fishing on Nelson! Over here finding a decent perch is mission in patience as you sort through a mess of dinks, even the keepers on the westside were throwbacks on nelson :hammer:

Heading out one last time tomorrow morning, hope to bring home a bunch of divers, maybe a goose if I'm lucky. Then its back to fly fishing, maybe some yote hunting, and ice fishing also.

Went down on the bitterroot today, shoulda been done in 30 mins, but I had some...um...issues lol. Anyways I was done by 930. Plenty of birds around if you can find water, plus a little extra pressure had them moving.
First year duck hunting, I'm figuring it out on my own. Best day by far. Helps to have a call, even if you sound like a drunk duck.
