Fellow New Mexicans

Postby SnookMan88 » Thu Jan 03, 2013 8:36 pm

I am a native new mexican that was displaced in florida at the age of 14 (now 24). I have been duck hunting for a few years now but have just come to realize that the hunting in new mexico seems quite good. Here in FL we shoot mainly divers and our most common puddle duck by far are teal. We never shoot mallards and pintail are a somewhat less than common trophy. There were close to 1700 duck bands returned from FL last year and around 6000 from new mexico (its hard to believe that NM may have better duck hunting than FL). I hope next year I can hunt in NM and it sure would be nice to visit home.

Must be a typo.........6,000 bands coming from NM, that would be 6 bands per active hunter or more. Must be more like 600 bands taken with 6,000 birds being banded yearly in NM. Dunno maybe someone else can chime in here???

Ya I would go with typo or misunderstood info, seen 3 bands my whole life hunting (seen, none mine) definitely don't have my quota of 6 yet haha. I would guess the info was meant originally as 6000 banned in new Mexico per year

I started getting bands when I started shooting more mallards. I have taken a band every year for the past 4, and last year or year before I took 2. None this year yet, but it ain't over till Randy Marci sings. I did however go on a widgeon shoot one day few years back and collected one that day. Interesting thing is that every band I got was banded at Bosque Del Apache, and most times, it was a bird less than a year old. So I'm going to go with the likelyhood of the 6,000 bands in our state as birds being banded here, not taken.

QFT. This year it will be the same as last year. March 15th.

as far as bands go, seems to be less this year than years past. Although the last 2 weekends have made up for the slow start on the iron this season....
this is where all the cool kids put how many ducks they kill
