Postby JakeCrews » Fri Jan 11, 2013 12:00 pm

I shot this mallard drake the other day and i really want to mount it but the only thing is thats holding me back from taking it to a taxidermist, is that the head is not fully green has some grey spots on him.He has three curls also! wish i had a better pic, should i mount him???Image

If it's special to you, then hit it...
I love hunting mallards, and as beautiful as they are, they just don't do much for me...they are almost cartoonish...
But if you like it, you should.

Three curls=mount!!!!! Plus, if it is a special bird to you, again mount him.

Well as far as curls go, look at every mallard you shoot. Pull that curl out, and you might be shocked at how many mallards have three curls. Personal opinion? It's a mallard. They are pretty common, and they come much prettier. I would wait for a better bird. Those feathers on the head that are not full will be very difficult for your taxidermist to cover up.

In no way am I trying to make a decision for you. If it means something to you, then mount it. It might not be the prettiest example though?

Yeah no offense 3 curls is pretty common wait until the last weekend of season and you will find a better one. And as said they are common. You'll shoot a better one and wish u would've saved your money.
