.243/hogs

Postby gr8white » Fri Jan 11, 2013 8:15 pm

Going with a buddy down to Florida to shoot some pigs. I don't know much about it really or what the preferred calibers are. I've got a remi 742 in .243 shooting 100gr core lokts...is this going to be an efficient combo?

Shot placement is key!!! I like the barnes copper solids. They will kill any hog that walks

Can you expand on the "shot placement" comment. Like I said, I know nothing about pigs and what makes a good kill shot on them.

Tween th' eyes or just behind th' shoulder blade. They have a very thick "plate" up front that protects th' vitals. Better make that first shot count....them 742's are worthy jammers!

That's Great Ilustration (pic) there . Having killed a few in my day , I try for a shot about an inch below the ear , works
every time for me ! Your 243 and the CORE-LOCK in a 100 gr will do a find job .

In my younger and much wilder days we used a .22 Mag to kill hogs in and around Perry Florida, and never felt under gunned. Your .243 with good bullets will do just fine. Shoot lots of them buggers.
