Church Wild Game Dinner Shut Down

Postby labtrainer » Sun Feb 10, 2013 8:32 am

A Madison County Church has held a Wild Game Dinner for 27 years.
Last night Feb. 9, 2013 was the 28th Annual Dinner
Just before the food was served a Official from the Madison County Health Dept. made her presence known and announced that the Dinner was in violation of County Health codes and ALL food, wild game or not, had to be removed from the property.
This is a Pot Luck/Dish to pass, style dinner. Everyone is aware that wild game will be served, No one is forced to eat anything, No Fee is charged to attend, No food is prepared on site. No inspection was conducted by the Health Dept.
The ONLY "violation" is the fact that Wild Game was present!
Wild Game is the Ultimate Organic food! No preservatives, No antibiotics, No Chemicals, NO PINK SLIME!!!!
Instead the "Health" Dept. would rather have us eat Feed Lot grown, Chemicaly filled, Slaugterhouse Processed and Altered Foods. This was an Attack on Hunting and Fishing. This was an Attack on Religion. This was an Attack on OUR RIGHTS!
Where will this Government Control and infrindgement of our Rights end?
Does this mean you can't invite a few friends over to your home for a Wild Game Dinner or Fish Fry?
Will ALL Pot Luck Church Dinners be outlawed?
What about recieving Communion at a Church Service? Will the Bread and Wine be a violation of Health codes?

If you think this is a Rant.......you bet it is! I'm sick and tired of "Big Brother" breathing down my neck at everything we do! I'm sick and tired of Government telling me what I can and can not do with my Own Life!
Don't be a Sheep, stand up and let your voice be heard! Write Letters , Attend Protest Rallies, Get involved, Take OUR Country Back! Be Proud to be a Patriot, you are here today because Someone took a stand for YOU! Do the same for our Children!!!!

That's New York for you. Next they are going to regulate how much air you can breath or gasoline you can consume. So what who have happened if y'all told the Inspector to p#ss off? Its not like it was a restuarant that they could shut down. Did y'all move it to another place?

By the request of the Church leaders, we complied and everyone collected their dish to pass and put it in their cars.
Many of us stayed for the guest speakers who did a wonderful presentation on Turkey a Waterfowl Hunting.
The Church is hoping to contact the Health Dept. to see if any Permits might be obtained for next year. A FEE paid to the county for some idiotic Permit will probably allow the event to continue in future years, but the problem remains, TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT!!!
Several of us exchanged Wild Game dish portions in the parking lot!!!!!!! Amazingly we are NOT sick this morning!

Well keep of the good fight man. Liberals think they can just keep pushing and pushing. Eventually we are going to be at the edge of a cliff with 2 options.

The way it was conducted, I firmly believe this is just another way to Attack Sportsmen.
As she stood there grinning the more people showed their disaproval the more she grinned! She was loving every miniute.
We ALL must take a stand against every unjust governmental act that is shoved in our faces.
I urge everyone to write Senators and Assemblymen to voice your opinion on this and all the other violations of our Rights!
Yoiur rights were attacked with this act, whether you attended the dinner or not!
Please stand with your fellow Sportsmen and contact your Representatives.

Babylon Tuna Club, tournament....Always a great time for DECADES....beer, food and of course, TUNA! The boats came in and steaks were for sale at below market prices right off the boat.
UNTIL........
the same BS that you are talking about.
Now, it's the same tournament, but fish trucks show up with certified butchers to sell fish from their market and the tuna goes home with the boat....

It always comes down to money!!!!!!
I'll bet next year the church will be required to buy a Permit.

I tried to see if I could donate geese to the church soup kitchen...not only did they say absolutely NOT, but I also learned that nothing home made is permitted either?!!??!
So if you wanted to make a pan of lasagna, pot of chili etc...they wont take it.
Not even cookies!

A report on WSYR a Syracuse TV station said the Health Dept shut down the dinner because of the potential of "Mad Cow Disease"
So I did a little research:
Only 3 cases of Mad Cow have ever been reported in the US
2 cases of a strain of Mad Cow that infects Deer (CWD) were reported in NY State in 2002 from deer raised at a deer farm!
32,000 wild deer have been tested and "0" NONE, Zip cases have been detected since 2005!
CWD has NEVER been reported to have been transmitted to humans!
The New York State Health Department web site states under the question "Do I always need a food permit?"
Answer 2nd paragraph: "Some events do not require a permit. These include events such as bake sales or covered dish suppers, where people bring a dish to share with each other.(Further more) A religious, faternal or charitable organization that has it's own facility and plans to prepare and serve food at it's facility does not need a premit for an occasional event (once a week or less often)."

By their OWN discription this Church Dinner does not require a permit nor does it fall under the Tyranny of the STATE Health Dept. let alone the Madison County Health Dept. The County Health Depts biggest complant was that the Church advertised the event in a local paper as "open to the public". So it would be fine if notice of the event was spread "underground" by word of mouth, sneaky like they were in Attacking the event!

OK labtrainer, I hear ya! But, if I read your initial post correctly, it was the county that shut you down, not the state. Of course, this is as unacceptable as the state having done it and it should be nipped in the bud. So my question to you is how can I help? Seriously. If I were to send some corrispondance to your county government, they'd probably just dismiss me as some down state wacko who has no business interfering. If I were to contact my state senator and assemblyman, neither would be very interested in the goings on in Madison County.

So, I'm asking as one who is interested in helping your cause. How can we downstaters help?

Frank

Well Frank I don't leave in Madison County either, but I attended the dinner as I have for many years. You can certainly contact the Madison County Health Dept. as well as the State Health Dept which oversees the county dept. You can also contact Richard Hanna and Dan Maffi even though they are not your Representatives you can still let them know of your disapproval of the way the Health Departments are Attacking Sportsmen and our Rights. You could also contact your own Represenatives to tell them the same thing (they ALL sleep together)!!! I contacted Steve McLauglin even though he is not my Rep. or a Rep for Madison County, he is the only one that has returned a message to me and he gave me several ideas of how to handle this and similar situations.
By applying presure on ALL the state Governmental agencies on any issue is the way to send a message to Albany that we are United against All forms of Tyranny.
Thanks for your support.

I agree with the advice above. Have you all considered writing letters to the Smirking PETA Beech's supervisor and that person's supervisor? What about the County Board and County Supervisor? The Health Dept might have been right technically, but put a lot of pressure on them and a reassignment might happen. You all will have the last laugh.

What jurisdiction would that woman have at a church anyway?

I have written to several State Representatives (only heard back from Steve McLaughlin so far) I also wrote to the Commisioner Of the Dept. of Health, Madison County, no response yet.
I have included a copy of their(Health Dept) website, as stated above, That they, according to their own posted requirements, had NO reason to shut down the Dinner. Other than they came in, waved some papers around, and declared the church was in violation. Since the church had held the dinner for 27 years without ANY word from the Health Dept. the church was caught completly off guard.
Our Taxes pay slime like this to sit around and think up ways to "Govern" over us, to implyment and abuse laws or manipulate and mis-inturprete laws to enforce their personal agendas. If anyone doubts this was the case here......well you had to be there, that woman was having the time of her life.
Believe me next year, we will be prepared!

Next year you should advertise the hell out of it, except on that night, lease the building to the cross dressing club's annual back shaving tournament.....
Let 'em stumble into that mess!

Labtrainer,
Thanks for researching this and going after the " smirking woman" . I hope you and your group have the last smirk. If it is found that there was no reason to shut down the dinner, I would press for a reprimand to the employee. Let her get a little " bad paper" in her official employment file. Heck, illegally shutting down a event on private property...lawsuit material?

Va, her boss is standing behind her and was aware that she was enforceing the shut down!!!
As far as a lawsuit....the church will take the "turn the other cheek" approach, I'm sure.
I have the documentation for next year and will have it on hand when I arrive along with a letter that my Lawyer will write just prior to the event. Then I will show her the door!!!!!

Blows my mind where these people come from. I must say that I applaud the churches as well as you and the others who where attending for the "turn of the cheek" . This state and this government are going to just keep pushing. I would have had a few choice words for the health code people. But hey, just keep eating the crap from everywhere else...population control.

Myself and several others (most of the attendees) were more than ready to "escort her out the door" but out of our respect for the church officials, we restranded ourselves. Hummmm imagion , a bunch of "Gun Owners" acting civilized and non-violent.
She was not worth the bad press the church and Sportsmen would have recieved.
The best part was that even though the event was attacked, most of the people stayed and dispite not being able to enjoy dinner we stayed and did enjoy a wonderful program on Turkey and Waterfowl Hunting. Which was followed by a message on Faith and Salvation and how it relates to Sportsmen and Women. The evening concluded with a large number of donated door prizes, the largest was a Hand Made Gun Wood Cabinet. A great time was had by all ! Can't wait til next year.

All in all it looks like you guys handled i good right from the start. Had you lead her to the door she would have come back with the law and then had the pleasure of shutting it all down. Glad you are prepping for next years event and have all the paperwork in hand. She and her boss are local guvmint, maybe time for a new mayor or town council.

One thing that puzzles me on this is the jurisdiction. Doesn't the health department need the sherif to close down an event? Not really sure, just asking. I mean, the DOH is not law enforcement, and they could serve the papers and that's it. Should you choose to ignore any "order" from the DOH, I would think you'd need the local police authority.
