Where can I find a Ruffed Grouse?

Postby tam9492 » Wed Feb 20, 2013 8:12 pm

Looking to purchase a Ruffed from an aviary. Anybody have any aviary suggestions? Wouldn't mind getting my hands on a sage grouse too if they are even raised in captivity. A google search didn't give me much.

Last listing I saw in the Game Breeder's Gazette for Ruffed Grouse was from a guy in Michigan named Jack Smith 248 895 6936. Can't remember ever seeing and Sage Grouse listed.

At first glance I wanted to say "in the woods!" but then I read everything else. Hope you get what you're looking for.

Cougar, When I read it, I wanted to say along the side of a gravel road. Where our 80 acres is in northern Wisconsin, We have to drive a few miles off the main road. We typically see at least 3 of them along the road on the drive to the woods.

There is a guy from Alaska on taxidermy.net that sells breasted birds (AK rules) on the for sale section. I would bet he is probably be out for the season though. If you post in the wanted section on that forum, you may get a response. They don't have to be game farm birds in some States.

I've seen sage sharptails for sale on that forum as well, but I don't remember seeing sage grouse.

Their not like raising a chicken I have heard. A wild pheasant you could throw in a 2'x2' box give it food and water and be done. But ruffed grouse need a more natural setting. Thats just what Ive heard.

From what I gathered, they are hard to raise in a pen and even harder to keep IN a pen.
