headcount over the spread was 21, rest of the birds taken were jump shot or on the X without decoys.

Yes I hunted with the Black for one day of the Oct split...sadly it didnt see any action though. It's been sitting on my mantle ever since because no one is signed up for it until it goes back to TIS at the end of Novemeber. I probably won't even make it to the blind in November so by all means, someone who's going to put it to better use than me, please sign up for it and I'll send it to you

Black duck is on its way to Fowl Mouth. I'm not sure what day it got to me but I didn't see it until I got home from hunting Saturday. It was on the side porch instead of the front door. Getting home after dark on Friday I would have never seen it. If there is an opening later in the season I'll give it another try.

Thanks,

Gents,
I have been a member of this forum I think for a little over a year now. Mostly in the boat forum when I was looking to get ideas for my creek boat. I usually just read threads and get answers to questions regarding firearms, etc. I am a native of NOVA, grew up in the area, went to school all the way through college in the area. I am now raising my family in the area. I grew up fishing the area like many. It wasn't until college when I was introduced to hunting. I have been hunting waterfowl since 2004. Anyways, just curious how one can get involved in the travelling decoy. Is it to late to participate for the current waterfowl season? I would like to participate locally, just because it seems simple and more fun to do with individuals in the same area or flyway. Anyways, I am not a carver, but was curious if the decoy has to be one that was carved by an individual or can it be a purchased decoy from a local carver? I was thinking of a cork black duck or canvasback decoy from William Powell at False Cape Cunning Decoys.

Decoy is on its way to callncut, the guy between us never gave me his mailing address. Hunting here has been tough, killed just a handful of birds over it each time on three hunts. Killed a few gadwalls on hunt 1, mallards hunts 2 and 3, but nothing that made me think about taking a picture. Have some video, will go through that when I get a chance, but it might be after the holidays.

And I must apologize for breaking it. Was picking up today, and by that time all the deeks were solid blocks of ice. It bumped another block, and off came the front two-thirds of the bill. I guess the ice made everything so heavy and brittle that all it took was a little bump. It's an easy repair, just not one I'm personally capable of. Again, my apologies to Doug.

If the break is kept preserved and can fit back together I can fix it. Callncut you could 5 minute epoxy it on if you have any and pretend it never happened. Glue it on...send it to me to be fixed....either way it doesnt matter.

No worries TIS. Its a tool, not a museum piece.

It needs a new bill, as the original is part of that pond's substantial slush and ice layer. Nothing but open water at 6:00, and by 10:00 it was all I could do to get the deeks out if 16 inches of water. The slush and ice layer was nearly 4 inches by the time we picked up, bill fell in my broken path and I was unable to retrieve the block in which it was hidden. I tried for as long as my hands could stand it, but was eventually forced to admit defeat. Sorry about this, certainly not my intention to bust up such a great piece.
