ShotShells for Canada Hunt

Postby cwonder duck » Tue Mar 19, 2013 8:09 pm

I am planning a trip to Saskatchewan this fall. Have been there many times but over the last few trips I have encountered troubles getting shotshells into the country. canada will allow 200 shells but I fly into Saskatoon and Delta will only allow 11 pounds of Ammo which is 3 boxes of 3" shells.

Anyone know of a way to get more ammo into Canada legally. Is there some way to pay for sending more. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

200 rounds per person duty free. Any over 200 you might have to pay duty. Most of the time I have just been waved through. Last time I paid duty me and my brother had a combined total of about 1000 shells (600 over). They ask how much they cost and duty was just under 20 bucks.

Bring a canadian with you and claim them when you cross... and you can bring 5000 shells , though you could be breaking US law (pretty sure) by giving the 5000 shells to the canadian on US soil, but your all cool crossing the Canadian border

I'm taking a case of #1's and 5 boxes each of 12ga 3" #3, and 10 ga 3.5 T shot. If I have to pay I have to pay. It sure isn't the most expensive part of the trip........

Thank you all for the replies but the hitch is the airline only allowing 11 lbs on the plane.

PAL is purchase aquisition license.
Rem1100 you guys are are way overcharged for Kents or are those the prices for 3.5" shells? Around here kent 3" is usually $20 or so a box.
If you're hunting with a guide contact them about stock up on your preferred ammo, they may be willing to purchase it for you.

PAL stands for Possession and Aquisition License. Good for 5 years. Issued by Canadian Firearms Centre now administered by Royal Canadian Police. Allows purchase of ammunition in Canada. Holders of a PAL can preregister non restricted guns to carry into Canada to hunt with.I have had mine for several years and it is really helpful.

Bring your 200 shells and buy more there. They sell the same stuff as you can get in the states. Prices are aroung $2 more up there.
