Map quest says that it is 80 hours of non-stop driving, on the way up here we made it in 84. However, on this trip I think it will take a little longer since we will have our 3 month old. I was ready to leave my wife on the side of the road in Canada on the way here, I can't imagine what it will be like with them both.

You have no idea how many times I proposed that idea. I even got my wife's mother to tell her it was a good idea, but she won't have it.

If you don't mind me asking, what do y'all use for bait/lures? This summer is going to be my first down in corpus and I have never fished anything but fresh water before.

Live shrimp on a popping cork or free lining live pin perch/croaker is the goto bait for most guides for trout reds and black drum. As for lures it depends on the wind and bite. Slick days are good with quiet small topwaters, rougher days loud large topwaters or soft plastics with a brown purple and flake to clear and chartreuse tail on 1/16-1/4 oz saltwater jig can produce very well. I hear gulp works well also but all i ever catch on it is hardheads...

We throw artificials until about mid July, when the water is blazen hot, and then switch to croaker soakin... My go to artificals are topwaters, corky devils, and any soft plastic that matches the hatch.

Saturday semi solo from San Antonio, was teaching a guy the ropes. Kept what I could eat, tossed back under 16 and over 20. No reds yet but saw them tailing in the shallows.

Get 3-4 paradise popping corks by bomber and two to 3 packs of 3-5/0 kahle or gamagatsu shine hooks. 20-30# fluoro leader material and 10mm red GLASS beads. also grab barrel swivel and brass clicks. Pretty much all you need to start on live bait. For rod and real I recommend BPS Penn Fierce combo for 79 bucks... Can't wait buddy gonna be a fish fry soon!!!
