2nd trap shoot

Postby Sagebrush » Mon Apr 29, 2013 9:41 am

Finally had some warm weather for the 2nd trap shoot of this year. Temp was around 78 degrees but there was a little wind to contend with. Two members of our team were late to sign in so we shot 5th on field five, in other words..... Last. Not a good thing in Reno if the wind gets worse.

Any way got out to the 16 yard for the first go round and .............I can't believe it. I MISSED a frigging bird ! Shot right over it and opened the door for the other top shooters. If that was not enough, I missed two more birds in the handicap round. On the way into the club house I told the head guy...."Well you don't have to worry about me getting high score".

The top three teams were named with their over all scores and the 3rd and 2nd place high scores were called ....... the high score went to a shooter that missed three birds, with a score of 47 out of 50.. Went over to the other table that shoots well to see why they fell down and they said they were getting bad birds with the little wind that we had.

Having top score is nice but I will remember that 16 yard miss for a while............

Still waiting for my w209 primers in the mail.......only 150 left.
Good shooting to all.

Yesterdays shoot brought our teams sponsor the Championship trophy . In all years these leagues have been shooting ,
we had a 3 way tie in the shoot-off . With all 3 teams tying again in the second shoot-off , Boy was this getting exciting !
One of the 3 was eliminated and then it was us against 5 of the best shooters in the Central Valley and we tied again . Now
the heat is on , so we went back to the 27 yd line to shoot doubles . Every Dog Has His DAY , we were crown THE CHAMPIONS !

And , The crowd Roared

Very nice !!

There is some thing about a shoot off that gets you into another world.
The thrill, excitement, sucking it up another notch........... just makes you come alive when
you know all the marbles are on the table.
Always interesting when you have to go to the back fence to see which team can the most patterns
nearest the clay birds. That distance can really freak some shooters out, even when it is just for fun or practice.

With the money crunch, out rep's do not put out trophys any more but they sell tickets for prizes, 5 for $20,
which is a fun time for all with Walmart prizes and tickets to the Reno Aces baseball games.

I remember my first 27 yard shot off................missed the 1st three birds !! Have to chuckle a little about
that day ....... just a little case of the nerves, and no, I did not win that one.

Keep up the good shooting.

Being a Sporting Clay's shooter and shooting on a long yardage trap team had it's advantages , when we went back to
the 27 yd line to shoot doubles . Our team only dropped one target in the doubles .

The 30" trophy went to our sponsor and Crowing rights went to our Team .

3200 i realise this was not an ATA shoot, but maybe they should pay attention. Doubles at the 27 yard line would stop these 100+ brd shootoffs. I for one have opted to flip for winner at minor events with no pay back, or have a beer and not be able to shoot, no alcohol rule.
Skeet shooters have shootoffs now at 3,4,5 doubles to stop the rediculous all after noon shootoffs.
Again, Congrats.

I agree with you . Shoot-off's should be one round of handi-cap , then it's back to the 27 yd line for doubles for everyone .

This would be great for me as Sporting Clay's shooters see these targets all the time !

Thanks
