Not many geese this morning, but at least the fishing was good!

Limited out on geese by 730, put up some tree stands, and then limited out on doves in the afternoon. Great start to a new season and brand new lease we picked up this year!

We waited around for 3 hours for the birds to show up and when they did they came fast. Probably couldve scratched out more if we had 5 dogs to speed retrieve after we knocked 5/5 out of the first flock. Before I could even get 10 ft off the bank with the yak to retrieve the belly ups, the next flock was coming. We had 10 minutes of fast and furious birds, a lot that decided to land too far away to shoot, but ended up with 13 in hand, 2 more disappeared on us. Very sweaty morning to be the only guy stuck in 1600gram waders and the kayak retriever but it was a good start to the season. I took lefty and his wife and son out in the evening for some doves, we killed 11 doves. Seemed like his wife had a good time and she shot pretty well. I on the other hand started out shooting terribly. I think I was 1/2 of the way through my first box before I finally killed 1. After that I dialed in a bit. I only heard 1 other volley of shots for geese in the morning, but it sounded like the dove hunters were out in the afternoon. Saw some nice duck shows in the morning and evening. I almost couldve grabbed a suzy out of mid air at one point in the morning

Sounds like a good day PSU. I had same type of day - but all birds came early...managed 5 then didn't see anything for at least a few hours. Was super hot!

Hunted doves in the early afternoon quite slow only shooting 3 but one was banded which was cool. Headed straight from the dove field to the boat and caught the last hour of lst. 2 of us ended up with 11 honkers.

I shot one goose the other afternoon. I could have killed a few more if I wasn't chasing a cripple. Passed up a shot on a doe to let my wife get a shot, but did work out for her. Hope to arrow one Monday or Tuesday.

took down 13 friday evening(plus lost one). Neighbors to the field thought we were facing out towards the road and opening fire on their houses. Thinking about making a call this morning to the county sheriffs office to talk to the seargant of the deputy that checked us out. Wanted to give the deputy a kudos for being very courteous and professional, talked to the neighbors and us seperately, and checked which way our blinds were facing for safety, and left the field before more birds got to us. 2 goose hunts into the year and weve killed 25 birds, and I am on to my 2nd box of shells. So far, a better start to the season than last year. Could be killing way more if we weren't being slackers on our aim but Im having fun!

PSUbuzz,

What type of field are you hunting in right now? A pasture or have the fields up your way been harvested already? Our farm and everything around it in southern Carroll County still has standing corn in it as of late last week.

one of the very few chopped corn fields is what we were hunting in. In the same field, there was a fresh cut strip of alfalfa from that morning. There were a few flocks that short landed us in that alfalfa. They seemed to be pretty interested in that. We were lucky on some flocks to really hammer on the calls and keep them coming in instead of landing out of range in the green :hammer:

Im seeing less teal, more woodies, and more inbred park domestic mallard hybrid retard looking ducks that are all over the whole area where I hunt. No clue where they all came from, and they arent just in one spot, just showed up in the past week. Ive never seen this many around town before, but ill be sure to tell you how a few of them taste come october

Same here, but it was the wife's first mature drake wood duck. Of course she wants it on the wall.
