I don't know what the big deal is. There are people that have said worse and no one seemed to mind. I'm southern raised, grew up in a time that was waaaaay different than now. But I'm far from being prejudice, but I can be prejudice real quick if given a reason to be. About every 5 or 10 years they change what they want to be called, I just stick with what I was taught. What is it with America these days, everybody wants to change the world, they want everybody to think, act, speak, and believe as they do. Why don't they mind their own business, live their life, leave the rest of us alone and shut the he?? up.

yes, from what I read, the restaurants will be rebranded with a different name no longer affiliated with Paula Dean.

Pick one still in law school 'Scaup,..That way when the issue comes up 20yrs. from now, he'll still be young enough to exercise some some wit, and seasoned enough by then to get the charges dropped

I just realized this was moved to the controversial issues forum. Pretty sure about 99.9% of DHC sides will Mrs Dean.

That's because siding with her is easy.

She was wrong, continues to be wrong and looks like she won't stop being wrong until she loses everything.

That said the treatment of her is wrong as well. The knee jerk reaction initially was expected. But destroying her brand is going to take a lot more than what I've seen...

IMO you can alway trust a Southerner to be honest about their feelings. And she was honest about her language as well and paid for it.

Personally, I would rather talk to anyone from the South that was candid about their feeling towards minorities than some two faced northerner that thinks that being PC is more important than being genuine. At least with a Racist Southerner you know where you stand and the reality is that at least you can respect the fact they have an opinion - rather than those that might hide it like some New Yorker that doesn't want to "offend".

So, was it wrong that she uttered those words? Depends, she said she said it but we don't know why or how. Was she wrong to admit it? Nope. Was the reaction over the top? The reaction was expected because it's not about anything but making money. No one is trying to tell her or anyone else to reconsider their language. All the companies are doing is trying to protect the flow of money - she's radioactive until enough time passes that she is considered the Grand Dame of Low Country Cooking again. It will take about 2 years. She'll be fine. (edit: if she shuts up.)

I have no axe to grind with her. And I believe one of my sisters even gave me one her cookbooks once.

Eventually some enterprising producer is going to team her up with a black Chef, she'll get a new show and the food will still be a buttery delicious heart attack on a plate.

Like it or not, ultimately she represents Southern Cooking - not Southern White people...

Heck, I don't even like her and here I am sort of defending her. :lol3:
