I was there almost 20 years ago and the LP is exactly where it was 20 years ago and exactly where it will probably be 20 years in the future. Even the socialists have a U.S. Senator. The Tea Party has already far surpassed the LP. The libertarian philosophy is a great thing for this country. The LP is worthless. What have they accomplished that makes them the best?
Liberals think that caring makes them superior and that is all that matters even if the results on the ground are destructive.
Libertarians think that their academic theories make them superior and that is all that matters even if those ideas never get off of the white board.
I think results are the only thing that matters when it comes to government and politics as long as basic rights are protected.
The LP is the embodiment of the warning of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good with the real world results that evil triumphs will the good men of the LP do nothing in practice.
Well stated. As much as I lean Libertarian, they have no results to show for and never will. Both Ron and Rand Paul both realize this. That is why they are Republicans. Both are trying to change or influence the party that is most receptive their ideas to actually realize results. Without the ability to effect change, the Libertarian Party is nothing more than a debating society. Libertarians should enter the Republican Party to have a wider platform and a stronger voice in which to influence and effect change. Look at how much influence the liberals have in the Democratic Party. If only the Libertarians would be so wise. But hey, the Libertarians can beat anyone in debate!
Unfortunately, the GOP is taking a page out of the Libertarian playbook. The GOP activists in trying to implement "conservative" purity, are alienating just about everyone limiting their ability to effect change. The GOP can't even score victory against a completely failed president. How sad.
