Blue wing teal on River? Question

Postby SemoDuck12 » Fri Jul 26, 2013 4:52 pm

I have some land that I am going to be able to hunt this next season. It's a backwater off the Mississippi River. My question: Is the Mississippi River a main flyway for teal? I plan to scout the area in the next couple days. I know it has 3 sloughs that keep water in them that run through it. Would this be early season blue wing teal habitat? I looked on the Internet until 2 lastnight and couldn't come up with an answer, so I decided I'd come here. Not Internet scouting. Just wondering if this is the right habitat.

Thanks semo

Sounds like premium teal and woodie territory. They will show up right around dove season scout hard right before season they should be there. Especially mid day teal travel up and down the river looking for backwaters to settle in for the day. A couple spinners and your hen mallards will be all you need
