Old mallards into ring-necks

Postby jandh77 » Tue Aug 06, 2013 10:56 pm

Hey guys, I've been working on painting decoys and decided to try painting some old mallards that I picked up in the field into ring-necks to add diversity to my spread. What do you think? Any suggestions?

They look REALLY good. Only thing I could say is maybe try and sand it down just a tad. Lightly strike the surface to get rid of the sheen of the decoys new coat of paint. Or throw some mud on it and then wipe it off. Just anything to eliminate glare from the decoys new, awesome paint job.
That's just what I would do. But those look awesome! A+

They look great . I just painted a dozen mallards into ringnecks. They look better than mine. I got a dozen mallards for free but there is not many mallards here in Florida so now they are ringnecks.

Thanks guys. After I finish painting all of my ring-necks, I'm gonna put 3 coats of flat clear Krylon on them. A couple of areas I hunt get several ring-necks. I've never had ring-necks in my spread and they always come in pretty readily, so I figure if I add some ring-necks to the spread it will completely tip the playing field in my favor! Thanks again for the positive feed back and good luck with the up-coming season.

Very nice. I recently did something similar with a bunch of old hot buy mallards I had laying around. Image
