Benedictine bottoms

Postby countryboy32c » Sat Aug 17, 2013 9:16 am

I just got drawed for a day of open duck/goose hunting in the Benedictine bottoms. Can anyone tell me something bout hunting there? Ive never been there do I'm not sure what its like. Is the water deep enough you need a dog or is there shallow marshes for just waders? Any help would be appreciated.

BB can offer some great shooting if you catch it at the right time . It has been our experience that colder it gets the better your chances are for a successful hunt . Large volumes of water being pumped into the two main pools 24/7 keeps them open . The water is shallow enough that a retreiver is not mandatory. I have experienced both sides of the coin at BB. From no ducks to fantastic . I hope you have a fantastic day there also.

Thanks John, I got drawed for early in the season. Oct 28th so I'm sure it will be too warm for many ducks. I'm thinkin bout goin up there during early teal season to scout round before my draw date. I'm hopin to get a better date for the second draw, anyone know what the odds are for getting a second date?

Solely based on my own experience ,I have hit the draw two out of every three attempts.

I have tried for 4 years and never drew a hunt there. As stated before, later is generally better

I was drawn 2 years in a row, it was terrible both times. Ofcourse, water is a good thing to have when duck hunting

Just got my draw for late December. Never been there but plan on making the trip up from Wichita. Looking at the marsh just west of the river, is there adequate cover on the west side?

Well Rich, I am not one for internet scouting, but you are welcome to send me a PM and we can talk about it. And If I were you, I would take me up on that offer.

Congrats Tomcat ; This is the second year in a row I`ve missed the draw. I guess my run of luck there is over. Hope you got a late date as I have had a few fantastic late season hunts there. Enjoy and good luck !

Well I got my second half if season draw and it's exactly one week later than my first season half. But is this government shut down gonna affect the bottoms? Both my dates are early in the season

Only federal lands are affected.
