Opinions on Best Diver Decoy Setup in Pamlico Sound

Postby HydeMarsh » Thu Aug 29, 2013 12:55 pm

I respectfully am looking for opinions on the best way to set up decoys for Divers in Pamlico Sound. I have been using some fairly standard rigs for years. sometimes people find things that work better. No harm in sharing that kind of knowledge in a forum. Not asking anyone to reveal spots.

Also, I know ya'll have a lot of experience regarding "Is the hunting best from near shore or out in open water for Blue Bills, Black Heads, Red Heads, and Cans". i would appreciate sincere responses.

Most folks in pamlico county spread their decoys 50 pounds at a time over the side of the gunnels, however some prefer to go off the back of the boat.

Depending on the wind...put decoys right on top of the pile or upwind of the pile.
Nah, seriously. You need weather. When there is going to be a blow, head east.
If its fishing weather.....go fishing.
Put that duck call in your pocket, you're not that good, and you're flaring birds

Hit the Nail On The Head! But yeah it depends on the weather, birds have to find the food!

Burn gas, scout, find the birds. Throw a hand full of decoys out and load your gun. :hammer:

1 or 2 nets http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B8h-xy8UKWY
2-3 dozen singles
4 dozen on 100yd+ long line to guide them in
It's go big or go home on the big water
If you don't have 150+ out you ain't hunting

thanks Eastbound. that has been my experience. Does it make a difference if you mix red heads and cans in with your bluebill decoys?

Never thought about using cans, I guess that would work as well as anything but it could take all day to open them up and dump them out. Why not just use bags? I am a sucker for red heads too, just never tried one while hunting.
