This whole argument is silly. Who truly owns the land? Animals?
Governments fight over land...they dont own the land but occupy it.
Nobody owns anything. We get to rent and pay taxes on it a while. We die, and then someone else moves in.

If I own something, then i own something. It is mine to use as I please. If something is held in trust for me, it is held in trust for me. Those are two entirely different concepts, and are far from interchangeable.

O.K., I see your line of reasoning....

Just because you own something doesn't necessarily mean you can use it as you please.

Perhaps I should have said "dispose of as you wish", rather than "use", to connote ownership.

Obviously, you can't take a gun and shoot someone to death with it. But neither can you beat someone to death with a duck, and not have repercussions.

But I can sell the gun. Can't sell a duck, even after I've killed it. Or stuffed it. So if I don't "own" it when it's dead and hanging on my wall, what rationale is there for saying I "own" it when it's flying around 1,000 miles from here?

You can sell it, it's just not legal to do so...I'll let you figure out why that restriction is in place.

Tell that to the guys "farming" redfish in marsh that has access to public water......they are claiming ownership of said fish within their boundary.

No thinking through needed. It's to de-incentivize any market-hunting aspects. But it begs the question of the legitimacy of them exercising control over it in the first place.

People farm redfish? I've seen the aquaculture pens for salmon and tuna, but how are they farming reds? I would think it's too shallow for pens, and if they aren't using ponds, how does that work?

As a side note, fishing in louisianna confused me, bc you'd be motoring down a waterway and all the sudden come to a private property sign that said do not enter. I never understood how that worked either, but I obeyed the signs for fear of being fed to the gators.
