All eat the same to me. I know the other teal looked better than that one. This guy was barely starting to get the cinnamon on the bottom of his head.

Whats your name on there? I like following outdoors folk instead of these hipsters that take pics of rocks and make it black and white and think they are some kind of pro photographer.

Goldfish2389. You made me go look, lol. I don't take many pictures tho, and if I do I usually don't Instagram them. Unless I'm feeling hip.

A buddy and I went out this morning to the bean field and put down a limit of honkers lots of birds around still very naive to decoys and responsive to calling and flagging all shots were around 15 yards feet down... Corns coming down pretty quick the days may be numbered in the beans! ..think it's time to get the sausage making stuff out I can smell that summer sausage smoking!!

Had my first poor public land experience today. I guess 1/5 isn't bad for the year.

Evidently school isn't in session this week? Got to the WPA, and saw four guys standing around...no vehicle. Turns out they were high schoolers. No big deal, I was that once.

Asked them where they planned on heading. They said North part of the water, which sucked because that is where I scouted but they were there first so oh well. We started gearing up, and they walk away...towards the South. Watch them for a while and they just keep going. Figure they're confused so we head North.

Get the dekes out, and start waiting for shooting hours. We start to see lights coming our way up the west bank. At shooting time they start throwing out decoys 100 yards away. Not ideal for bigger water, but whatever.

Then a NICE bunch of teal come in. Whizzing here and there. They only got one look at us before these guys started shooting...from the water! Still had their decoy bags floating.

For the next 2.5 hours these kids shot at anything that flew...crows, blackbirds, gulls, migrating geese. All the while hooting and hollering and running around. Came closest to calling CO when I heard them talk about a coot they shot that was still alive. Saw em throwing it at each other. Pretty aggravating.

It wasn't going to be great hunt, but they really ruined it.

The good news was a pheasant hunt the day before. Went out with a couple co-workers. One with two NICELY trained vislas, and one with a pointer mix who had never hunted a day in his life. Took a chance on a WPA an hour from cities. Decided to give er hell. Well I flushed and shot one myself. The two vislas had nice points, one with an honor. And the totally green dog had a HARD point on a rooster. His owner thought it was a rabbit or something...boy was he surprised when a ringneck got up! Should have had a third rooster, but we missed. All in all I was VERY happy with seeing the birds we did.

Joe

Should change your username to puppychow

I wouldn't let my kids around these vislas. All business no play.

Good to see someone finding some roosters. The population sure is down in my area. Went one day last weekend and only got one. Had a couple DD and couple labs working for us. Drats only pointed twice and labs flushed a few hens. We usually get way more than this on my friends land. Corn is still up so that didn't help at all.

Should have had a limit, but poor shooting and sky busters limited me to 4, which is the most I've ever taken home myself in one day, plus that's the first pintail I've ever shot.

Thats a bummer about those turd kids, stupid MEA weekend. I've might have been a bit trigger happy as a kid but I've never once toyed with a wounded animal. I might have called them in if they were dumb enough to blast everything with someone else on the slough. Stupid should hurt sometimes.

Good shootin on the roosters tho. I've drove waaaay farther than that for less birds before.

Nice job!

What kind of boat is that? Looks like a kayak almost. Easy to carry in?

Yup. It's a Carsten kayak. This one is the Teal. Pretty easy to move around. The tag on it says it weighs 80#. For comparison, I weigh something like a buck and a quarter (yea, I'm a little guy), and I can throw it on my car
uploadfromtaptalk1382107584939.jpg

It hides extremely well being such a low profile, and is stable being wide and flat bottomed. It doesn't paddle as easy as river kayaks, but I can stand and push pole it if I'm looking for a downed bird and I want to see better.
