Another thing is their shipping. Way overpriced.

Ever watched the documentary, "The high cost of low prices?"

Nope. But I've never watched Fahrenheit 911, Sicko, or Bowling for Columbine, either. I try to leave the propaganda for the North Koreans.

This is Cabela's 2013 in a nut-shell. They went public in 2004. Takes a few years for the shareholders to really take control. Since then we saw the, for all intents and purposes, deletion of Herter's and many other brands (they stopped carrying many, many brands).

It is now all about the almighty dollar. So you see more and more Cabela's brand gear. The margins cause that (i.e. more profit).

I still buy many things from Cabela's, but I don't buy many high dollar items that carry the Cabela's name.

Not true at all. Based on my experience that ended when they went public. I have a fly rod, and a pair of waders that developed a seam leak to prove it.

Now they want to sell you extended warranties. :fingerhead:

I'm pissed that the Cabela's brand brass swivels I just bought that I thought were 100% solid brass are brass plated.

On the package it says," BARREL SWIVEL BRASS"

Well, that isn't so. The wire is not 100% brass, it's brass plated. I used a hack saw and cut through one of the barrels and it is brass, but the wire is not. the packaging should state that the wire is brass plated.

FWIW, I'm making trotlines and once you tie the knots and stretch it, you are not getting it untied easily. I'm so pissed right now!
Anyone got a link for 100% pure solid brass swivels? If it were not for the salt water I would not care so much, but salt water will corrode and brass is the best if you are making a trotline.

Oh, and now I see that the online description says this:
We offer the finest quality imported, solid marine brass swivels on the market. We buy in huge volume direct from manufacturers using high technology automated machines.

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Brass-Barrel-Swivels-Brass/702102.uts

That's BS! I need counsel Brah!!!! I might sue for false advertising! :hammer: I think I'm going back to the store in the morning and talking to the store manager.

cheap crap. twisted nylon line.....that is why I make my own using braided nylon line which resists tangles and far outlasts twisted line. But it's pointless if I don't have real solid brass swivels! Plus-a big cat or a big drum will pop the line stops on those cheap lines......then you really have a mess!!!

1/0 swivel. I used the hack saw to cut into the barrel to check it. I had a piece of wire loose in one of the packages and that is how I found out about the plated wire.

As pissed off as I am about the non-brass "brass" swivels I bought from Cabela's, I'd be pissed having to deal with that BS in NY to buy a gun.....

I will have to call and ask them if they are solid brass wire or not though before I order...I've come to find that all that glitters is NOT brass!

It was 7months and 7 days! get it right!

And yes, I am allowed anything from the abridged Cabellas catalog that contains nothing combustible, edible, shootable, sharp or sparkly...
But I did get a nice camo comforter though!

you obviously haven't returned anything to them recently. They only give you what they feel is the life of the product. NOTHING carrying the CAbelas name has a lifetime warranty. Waders for instance only carry a one year warranty anything outside is considered out of the normal life of the product and normal wear and tear.

http://catalog.catfishconnection.com/

trophy catfish chaser, and fish cat tourneys. all my gear is bought from them. Also try decoy line for braided. I got some #800 braided line from Cabelas recently in the decoy line sections that was on clearance. never buy twisted anything for cats, running line or what not, those who don't know learn real fast. type the word "braid" into the search and you have a ton of options from black to gold
