Cleaned out a few potholes!!!

Postby Capt Jeff Kraynik » Sun Sep 29, 2013 1:04 pm

Had a couple gentlemen in from Tennessee this week, of course during our first fall cool front.

We had planned on a (2) two night hunt but with the winds building to (15-20) fifteen to twenty over the next (24) twenty-four hours, we knew we had to get the hunt done tonight.

The fist gator, a (7) seven came @ the edge of the river run with a crossbow hit to the lung. After putting a second line into it, we moved into our duck holes to clean out some bigger ones.

As we pushed our way up into the marsh & into a foot of water, the ( eight footer blew up out of a grass mat, hauling arse for the willows.

The client drew back his bow & nailed it in the lower back as it was moving full speed & away towards the safety of the willows.

Whack!!!

The gator took all the line & ended up (20) twenty yards in the tall brush giving us no second shot.

Capt. Jim Myer grabbed the bang stick, bailed out of the boat & followed the line to the predator.

After disappearing into the brush we heard the "crack" of the .223 round just a few seconds later!!!

Out came Capt. Jim dragging the still quivering beast.

After freeing ourselves from the sticky black mud, we proceeded about (50) fifty yards into the pothole when all of a sudden the water blew up like a hand grenade going off, splashing everyone in the boat.

Capt. Jim who was in the rear seat began to yell, "shoot, shoot, shoot!!!"

The (9) nine footer began to run across the pothole @ full speed when the crossbow bolt struck it square in the back.

I yelled to the client to grab the line before the beast could again get into the willows. The line came tight, stopping the gator in its tracks.

All of a sudden the gator turn & ran straight towards the boat.

I started to yell "he's coming into the boat" & for client jump up on the seat!!!

As it reach the port side bow, the gator launched itself onto the front deck of the boat, snapping @ biting @ anything it could get into its jaws.

As the gator twisted & turned on the deck, it finally rolled off & tried to escape again towards the willows.

Capt. Jim had already loaded up the hand held harpoon & the client launched it square into the gators back.

After a few desperate "death rolls" to free itself, the beast settled down & afforded us a .223 bang stick shot to the head.

After the cheers, back slapping & high fives, we boated the beast & headed back to the ramp.

What a night to have forgotten the GoPro's!!!

There are only two types of people in the world, those who love duck hunting and those who never have duck hunted.
