Knocked down 7 teal and a mallard with my dad this morning. Not too many people in the Quinnipiac though. Lots of skybusters and god-awful calling. Typical opening day crap

Today in a group we managed to get 9 today. We're trying to top off our bags in the same spot now. Pretty slow now, though.

public land.....

i do the opener really for the teal, and there were some but not a ton....

let my buddy take a single drake mallard that circled twice and came into the spread, he whiffed three times and I stood and hammered it....banded!!!, broke his heart, first duck of the year......he had some hesitant teal that were undecided and loafing across the spread and he whiffed both times....otherwise we would have got a ful limit....nice morning....the marsh was civil, the ramp was empty....no one shot early....didnt get checked by the wardens.... thats a first for the CT opener...

all around decent shoot...

Bob,
That sounds too good to be true. Are you sure you weren't dreaming? Good job on your shoot today.

not many birds at all in a spot thats been loaded every opener i've hunted. Managed 2 mallards a teal and wooduck. Probably saw 20 birds the whole morning. Did see four pintails though.

I'm in agreement Jim - Very slow in my favorite swamp, Managed a Mallard and a woody but very low numbers seen including geese. Surprise of the day was two ring neck ducks - usually don't see them this early.

I shot a semi plumed drake mallard today too. No bands though.

The drake woody britt shot was almost mount worthy!

Ended up limiting out yesterday for the first time ever. I shot my first teal, also. Two GWT, a BWT, a woodie and two mallards. I was surprised at the lack of color in the plumage. I'm new to this early season thing, I guess. I went out today and tried a new spot and the two gentlemen ahead of me at the ramp were kind enough to point me in the right direction as to where he thought I would set up. I shot a bit, but overall it was just plain slow. The poor guy who gave me the pointer didn't even shoot once.
