New Puppy, Hand Signal Training Tips?

Postby drew_timothy » Wed Oct 09, 2013 4:40 pm

My first lab knew the "back" and "over" hand signals, but that was my dads doing, and I dont think he really trained him, my current dog doesnt know these signals, and I'd like our new springer to learn. The dog isnt mine, but my dads, but i go to school very near my parents home and would like to work with the pup when he's old enough to start serious training. Anyone know of a good method to do this? I've heard of the "baseball" technique where the puppy sits at the "pitchers mound" and bumpers are placed in positions similar to first, second, and third bases, and signals are made towards the desired direction. If this is a good method ill try it, just thought id ask if anyone else is experienced in this area and if they have another drill.
