2100 cfs, Yikes!

Postby jrabq » Wed Oct 16, 2013 8:21 am

They just bumped the flow in the Rio to ~2100 cfs (normally 300-600 cfs this time of year). If it stays this high it will be dicey next week. I even start worrying about the dog when it gets above 1000, be careful.

Yep. The corp of engineers say they need to draw Cochiti back down and that it should be this way for about 7-10 days and then they will ramp it back down. As soon as that happens they will release the ditches down south and bring it right back up. gonna be a weird opener with so much water next week.
this is where all the cool kids put how many ducks they kill

Let it flow, let it flow, let it flow  ...

I hate it for you boys up there though. Be careful. No duck is worth loosing your dog, or worse, over.

They used to routinely run the San Juan at around 2000 cfs many years ago, and it made for sketchy hunting conditions. Be careful fellas!

I guess I should say "normally" the flow where I hunt is ZERO this time of year, until they stop irrigating November 1, so it is good to have water for the opener, hasn't happened in a while. But I would be happy with the flow I saw yesterday.

I was up there today getting my key and the river was moving pretty good and had risen up a foot or two. Some of the blinds are now in the water. Looks like a whole different place. Be careful if you go this weekend.
