Just over half way to season goal!

Postby hurtin_honkers » Wed Oct 16, 2013 8:35 pm

Last year i made it a goal to kill 30 ducks, and i fell short at 24. Just didnt go out much towards the end of the season when local flocks had hit the road. So i made the same for this year! 30 it is! Crossing my fingers on my first ever band. A far my count includes 9 woodies, 5 mallards, and 2 blacks. Should be more, but i get very cautious when a flock of all hen mallards come in, and i think they're blacks in that early morning, or been dubbin off not paying attention, orrrrrrrr my gun malfunctioning. Whats your guys count so far? Any bands?! Stories?!
The worst thing about missing isn't the ridicule from your buddies, its the disappointed look of your dog

Some ducks and one banded goose that I can't call in because the gov't is closed. Did I hear this morning they're back in business?

Should be more

We all think that
I shot terrible during last nights hunt. I'll be out again this afternoon.

Remember it's not about the numbers, it's about the experience.

So far im up to 20 ducks and 2 geese. Got my first ever banded bird on the opener with a limit including the banded hen mallard, 2 GW teal, a drake mallard, a black, and a drake woodie. I hunted up by Calais (3.5 hours from home) in the north zone while the South was still closed, and got my first ver pintail with a black and couple woodies, it was a hen but was still cool! I had to belly crawl about 70 yards to sneak up to it in a little muddy pond in the middle of a clear cut. haha A good story for sure! gotten sevaral teal, 2 mallards, a few ring necks, a couple blacks and several woodies.

Theres been a good number of local birds, but not much in the way of migrators. Hopefully be good after the two week shut down. I'm bummed that they closed the coastal zone at the same time as the South zone this year, and that its for a month!! thats alot of my hunting areas, and i could hunt straight thru last year

32 geese 10 ducks. I haven't done very well on ducks because you can't kill em on the couch. The low numbers of local birds has me disgusted!
