Decoy coloring

Postby kkelly » Thu Oct 17, 2013 11:58 am

Hey guys just thought I'd ask y'all your insight wisdom and two cents on something. As this is my third year huntin here I'm still getting used to the timing/scheduling of duck season.

The question is this: during the early part of the season (November) do you guys use a more weathered looking decoy for the "not full plummed" look? I know back in ND we have just started getting full color in November. So we would put out faded drakes instead of the brightly colored ones. Is that worth while down here?

Here's a pic of what I'm getting at. Image

Thanks.

I run essentially the same spread from November to January. Given that I will shift things up depending on the situation, but I've never had any trouble with using the same ones all season long. I've never really given much thought to using a "not fully plumed" decoy though.

About the only thing I change up is using a few decoys that I have colored their bills a brighter yellow.
