Catahoula Lake access update

Postby Mr.L » Thu Oct 17, 2013 6:39 pm

The gate on the road to Big Bend was opened today. Catahoula Wildlife Refuge workers had to put some gravel in a few wet spots on the road. The road will remain open until the next big rain. Now is your chance to go work on your blinds on the north end of the lake.

The lakebed on the north end is still wet. Water is in low places and ruts. The only way to get out in lake is by four wheeler. If it rains, the Catahoula Wildlife Refuge will close gate on Big Bend road. I was surprised at the amount of standing water in the low places.

They have gotten about 2"-3" of rain in the last week and the ground was already moist. If the soil is covered in vegetation it will take it a while to dry out with the cool temps that have moved in.
