Shelbyville Main Lake

Postby jwurts4 » Fri Nov 01, 2013 6:21 pm

Was going to try my luck for the 1st time Sunday. Worked last 2 weeks straight and ready to get out in the great outdoors. Me and my buddy have been working on a boat blind. Going to take it out on the maiden voyage. We were thinking of launching around coal shaft. Maybe hunt Wilburn area? Any ideas/feedback on the area. Saw on another post that they said it sounded like WW2 on opener. What are the rules on "north end". Heard off limits to boaters until 11? Any feedback is appreciated.

there are no rules about the "north" end being off limits to boaters.

Had a group of 6 bluebills land at the edge of the decoys around 8. no other action. Still early.

Saw about 50 white pelicans. Its pretty weird to see them this early in the season.

I saw a migrating flock of around 200 white pelicans here in Union County around the middle of October. I have heard there is a flock hanging on Crab Orchard Lake.

There were pelicans at Lake Clinton in September.

They must fly very slowly...

Headed down to hunt in the morning. First time having the boat on this lake running top notch. Any tips, no no's, gps coordinates? Lol but in all seriousness I hope we kick some ass this boat has been the death of us the last two years.

Pelicans are on Shelbyville almost year round. I first started seeing small groups back in June.

asmythe32, Shelbyville is either feast of famine this time the year especially. Do your homework and keep a log book. After a few years you'll know where to hunt and when.

We have hunted there before. What I thought was a top notch running motor gave us nothing but trouble. Wouldn't stay running and the damn thing wouldn't go into forward gear. I was beyond pissed that day. I am about to throw that motor in the garbage.
