FINALY got my first mallard of the year. Pretty rare here. Image
Today was a decent day i guess, had teal in the decoys all morning but the fog was so bad that by the time they got off the water they were already disapearing into the fog...also covered up in specs all morning, they were decoying better than the ducks. To bad east zone season is already closed.....Image

Yep, what duck collector said...it would've been much better without all the fog. I'm tired of all this calm wind!

Today was by far the best hunt of the season...the ducks were stupid, and in love with the Mojo's. We were loaded up by 8:00, and the birds were still coming in on us as we were leaving. Just wish we would've had more hunters so we could do more population control.

Lol not at all :)
I meant that I didn't get the quantity that I am normally after, but the quality defiantly made up for it!
I would love to have a gadwall shoot like that!

Indian I have gotten really lucky. Last season was my first and my 8th duck was a banded common goldeneye. This season is my second and I shot this stud, he was duck # 220 for me and my hunting partner combined, along with the occasional third person.

It was cold as heck, but worth the pain...limited out in less than an hour, and shot 3 geese on top of that. Great day to be on the water!

They dry gloves pretty good also, but it's hard to keep it going in 25 mph wind.

Slow hunt yesterday morning.

We had been seeing a lot (40 - 50 at a time) of wood ducks on a spot at the back of my friend's property. Tried a hunt before work yesterday in attempt of getting one in full plumage to mount but didn't see a single wood duck.

The spot is an old river bed about 20 yards wide with a permanent blind situated so it is looking across to the other side. He cleaned up the brush and planted it when it went dry last year so we have 100+ yard view to either side of the blind. We saw about 30 ducks, should have had limits, but ended up with only 2 ducks. They would fly right down the river about 3' off the water and we would not see them until they were right in front of us. By the time my brain would comprehend there were ducks in front of us, they were gone, over the trees in front of us. It made for a very fun but frustrating hunt...

We got our limit again...not sure where the breeze came from, but I'm glad we had it.

Image
It was also one of the most expensive hunts of the season...first cinnamon teal of the seasonImage
Image
This pretty bufflehead decided it wanted to be on the wall, and then Image
This GW teal looked like it needed to join his buddy's at the taxidermist.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get a nice drake BW to go along with the others...I missed a couple nice ones today. It took us until 10ish, but it was a great hunt regardless.
