freeze up

Postby StuStiltman » Wed Nov 06, 2013 8:44 pm

I hate to be the one to start this thread but.........potholes in OTC were iced up this afternoon, I hope the wind picks up, that should keep everything open for a while.

I had to chop a little ice two weekends ago to put decoys out but this past weekend was ok. Temp was about 19* this morning so I'm sure stuff will freeze up soon. I'm not chasing deer this weekend so I will check all water out this weekend.
Quoted from my wife while I am tapping on my iPad, "Are you talking about ducks again?"
Me, "Yep".

The harbor to Mille Lacs had skim ice today, and going past Onamia the rice was froze with snow on the ice, but I don't know how thick that was.

Most ponds are frozen. The back bays on the lakes are also frozen, I suspect the wind that's coming will free up some bays and ponds, at least for a while.

Small lakes up here are all frozen over, big lakes have open water but most accesses are iced up. Hopefully the warmer weather coming will open some up.

Central MN the medium/small lakes were iced up except for small holes in the middle, but big(est) lakes were still open. Hitting Mille Lacs in the morning, but the shore yesterday looked like this

So with 50 degree temps today will that open most of the lakes again? I'm thinking yes. Going to check shortly

Yeah I drove around a bit and saw that. Don't think it will melt by Saturday either.

Let's hope not. Once things freeze it is not good if it unthaws unless it is early in the season. Praying stuff around me stays froze so I can light em up on the remaining open water. If things open up they'll spread back out. Ice is your friend.
