Duck hunting Kansas

Postby Gkrowe » Sun Nov 10, 2013 11:18 pm

I am active duty military relocating to Fort Leavenworth, KS for the next year for school and was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about the duck hunting there. I'm not looking for anyone's secret honey holes, just some general areas (any available public land, maybe?) to take a look at during my limited down time. I've been in Alaska for the last ten years, and the duck hunting was pretty non-existent, so I'm looking forward to making the most of my year in Kansas.

If anyone is interested in a partner or guiding, I'd be interested in that as well. I'm by no means an expert, but I am decent; I'll help with the decoys, split gas, and spring for some chow.

Thanks for taking the time!

As soon as you're on post join the Rod and Gun Club. You will find plenty of help in figuring out the local situation and maybe a few guys to hunt with too. That's what I did when I arrived at Ft. Lvn in 1984.

Are you free to hunt during the week? How far are you willing to travel?

HMMM....Leavenworth...School....Sorry I don't provide information to officers.

But no seriously, I'm not familiar with Leavenworth area. Otherwise I'd help you out, I was in KC as a recruiter for a while, but only hunted the MO side. Smithville Lake is usually packed. And I've always heard good things about the Platte River but never hunted it.

Also good luck getting hunting info from ISer's (in stater's). Very protective bunch these guys.

Regardless, if two hour trips are your thing your welcome on my duck blind in the Fort Riley area.

So, krowe, you've received some good responses....how serious are you?
The season is quickly passing.

Quickly passing? Ours just started!
