homemade wonderduck

Postby holtspur » Mon Nov 18, 2013 10:53 pm

Well guys I've got it down to a science at this point. However I screwed up my oversize mallard drake in the process. I have a mallard hen that is near perfect. Now I want to do another but want to use my oversize. I only have pintail and black duck left. Both are pretty rare in my parts. Which of the 2 species would you guys use? Does it matter that I may not see this species in a given season?

I always match my decoys to what I see in the area I'm hunting, but since that isn't an option, I'd go with the black duck since they're pretty neutral/nondescript looking compared to the pintail.

Do you have any pictures or details on how you made your wonderduck?

I'll try to get some pics on here tomorrow. The idea is an easy one, start with the decoy. We decided oversize were easier to work with. Open it up somehow. For us, we just cut a small V behind the neck, so that we could set the motors in. Got 2 small high power electric motors from radioshack cost about $5 a piece. We set the motors in small wooden frame and wired them to a pack of 3 d batteries. Once through we tack welded, very lightly, a small piece of metal on the end of the shaft on the motor. Worked great on this past weekends youth hunt.
