Lake hunting from the shore

Postby robquacker » Tue Nov 19, 2013 9:52 am

I'm a new duck hunter in Texas and hunt primarily from the shore. Any thoughts on whether a cove, point or straight shore line is best? I was on a cove this morning because that was the closest cover to the water in the area I had seen ducks flying this past weekend. There weren't many ducks out today and very few of those even came close to where I was. I had 12 decoys out and didn't do much calling since I'm not very good yet. Appreciate any tips.

Watch the ducks and see where they are going. Usually on windy days they go to a calm bay, on normal days they sit out on points. When they are really pressured they go to the straight banks and sit off the shore.

Hell if you have a boat with a very well camoflaged blind/boat in general you can set up anywhere. I set up right next to a concrete seawall this past weekend and we did damn good.
