Mature Canvasback?

Postby Duck Collector » Sun Dec 01, 2013 6:05 pm

Killed my first canvasbacks this weekend and im trying to figure out which is the most mature bird for a mount. One has a solid red head with alittle blackish color around the bill and the other has a red neck and almost his whole face is black. Are more mature birds the ones with darker heads?

I believe the scaps and back feathers become more white as they mature. I would go with the one with the fewest pin feathers. There's bound to be a few on each....guys in the taxi forum would know best

If you have a facebook or something of that nature just post it there and then save it to your computer from there and it should work. I've always judged them based on size and the amount of white on their back and wings

One in the middle might just more wet around the neck, but the bird to the right looks to have more mature plumage.

I believe the whiter they are, the more mature they are. Both look mature, but I'd go with the one on the right.
