Predictions for the Coming Weekend

Postby HydeMarsh » Sun Dec 08, 2013 11:30 am

Respectfully asking the experts on the forum if the coming weekend should be good - considering the weather, moon, amount of birds coming and going?

Plan to scout the sound on Sunday - (not looking for spots or even counties) - have the divers started showing up in numbers yet?

I was thinking the same thing. There is going to be some decent snow cover and some water frozen to our north. Shouldnt be nothing but good for this weekend..

Went out this morning to look around and wasn't too impressed with what I saw. Looked like a carry over from November season. A lot can happen and change over the next week so I am still hopeful.

Very few divers in my area right now but I'm predicting a few will arrive by Saturday. Fewer here now than there was a week ago.

I am a bit disappointed in my neck of the woods. I thought the storm in the Great Lakes would have more divers down here by now. I think we have had a net decrease since the end of the last split.

But a whole lot can change between now and 0630 this coming Saturday. I already have the iPad alarm set for 0345, 14 Dec. I'll check it each night to ensure it didn't change on it's own. By Friday night I will have 3 alarms set in the bedroom. For some reason she thinks that's silly. Imagine that.

Spent a couple of hours running around ENC. Saw a ton of divers where I'm planning to go on Saturday. Bluebills, Redheads and Buffies. With projected N winds all week, bird numbers can only go up. Pretty excited.

Out pluggin on sea ducks yesterday. The numbers of divers still seem about the same from what I've seen over the last few weeks. Did have one nice flock of bills drop right into the scoter spread. hope to see a better showing of birds by this weekend.

Havent scouted in a couple of days but the weather this week should sure help. Parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey got 8 in. of snow Sunday and are expect to get 6 more in. tomorrow afternoon. Some of My family lives on the Eastern Shore and its not supposed to get above freezing the next 5 days there. Should get a good push of birds before the opener.

I hear there is a strong WOO front moving east on Thursday followed by another WOO front on Friday, these fronts will combine and stall over GCI and surrounding areas. Should be partly cloudy and very foggy Sunday morning
Looking forward to getting out there...

Why don't you head north and scout the migration for yourself :hammer:

Is that better?

Went by the airport to where this time last year it was wrapped up with bluebills. I know we can't do anything there, but their great to look at. Yesterday, nothing. Every spot that I checked my notes on from last year this time, was empty. Nothing. What I did see just isn't worth talking about. Saturday will be just another day in the week. I really hope I'm wrong.

Glad we have a roof on the blinds.. and a lid for the grill.
The only thing i know for sure this weekend is that the oysters will be salty, the drinks will be strong, and the company will be top notch. 100% chance of WOO
If the ducks are there that will be a bonus!
