MEC 600 jr final crimp adjustment help

Postby Baher20018 » Wed Dec 11, 2013 8:27 pm

I have a MEC 600 jr mark 5 that I cannot get the final crimp station adjusted correctly. I have tried everything, reading the manual, watching the videos on YouTube and even about 50 hulls of adjusting and crimping. Can someone please explain some way to adjust this thing or how you have gone about doing this?

I know there are two ways to adjust it both the cam adjuster and the crimp punch. Just need some advise on how this can be done or adjusted to factory settings.

can you describe the symptoms of what is going wrong? a bulge over the brass or a poorly shaped crimp. if it's the crimp, describe what the crimp looks like. also tell us what you are putting in the hull (powder, wad, shot,

Raise it up all the way. Put a loaded factory shell in the final crimp and pull the handle down all the way. Now screw the crimper down until it stops. You are now in the right ballpark, so its probably going to be no more than a full turn up or down to dial in the hull you are loading.
Why do I shoot 3.5" for geese? Because they don't make a 4" yet!

I had a similar problem a month ago. There was nothing I could do to get a proper crimp or prevent a bulge. I was putting 7/8 oz of shot in a wad designed for 7/8 oz of shot. Problem was the wad really held 13/16 oz of shot. Other people on here posted the same findings.

I'm using a proven load from a member of this forum. It's a pretty tight load I'm starting to think I'm not putting enough pressure when I hand set the wad.

I will try and post pics.

Took a long time but here is a pic. Any advise on where to go from here? My progressive press crimps great. I cannot adjust this press correctly and keep getting a wavy crimp.

It looks like your start crimp is a little to deep. Raise it a 1/2 turn at a time to see if you can get rid of waviness. Ned S
